What can Acupuncture treat?
The World Health Organisation have identified a range of conditions for which Acupuncture is beneficial, such as headache, dental pain, nausea, vomiting, osteoarthritis of the knee and many more.
How is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture different from Medical Acupuncture carried out by other Health Professionals?
It is based on a system of medicine developed, researched and refined for 2,000 years. More specifically, it uses a range of diagnostic tools including observation of tongue & pulse to arrive at a holistic diagnosis and treatment plan appropriate for the individual, including lifestyle advice.
A symptom is the end result of an underlying imbalance in the body and TCM Acupuncture aims to discover and correct this imbalance in order to effectively alleviate symptoms. Therefore, cause and effect are both treated.

How many sessions will I need?
This will be discussed at your initial consultation. Acute quick on-set conditions may be resolved more quickly than chronic longer-term conditions. Typically people notice a lessening of their symptoms between treatments and rate of progress/resolution varies with the individual, their condition and lifestyle.

What if I need to change or cancel my appointment?
Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to change or cancel an appointment. Otherwise you may be charged 50% of the full fee or 100% if less than 24 hours notice is given and your appointment slot cannot be filled. Please note that this also applies to missed appointments.
Does it hurt?
Acupuncture stimulates the body's healing energy by the insertion of very fine needles into acupuncture points on the body (nothing like those experienced during vaccinations/blood tests!). The needles are sterile one-use needles and most people experience only a slight dull sensation following needle insertion.
Do I need to tell my doctor I am having acupuncture?
You are not obliged to, though it is a good idea. Sometimes, if appropriate and only with your permission, we will work in conjunction with your doctor.
